RESORT INFORMATION

The development of the Clearwater Resort began in 1998, when local investors, including the late Diana, Lady Isaac, and golf course designer John Darby, purchased the land. They modified the concept and named the development Clearwater in 1998.

Construction of the residential resort and golf course commenced the same year. The golf course was completed in time for the first of its many annual international professional golf tournaments in March 2002.

The area is now well-developed, with architecturally designed homes, villas and apartments. Very little land remains available. A number of stylish apartments are available for rental accommodation, as part of the Peppers Hotel development.

LOCATION

THE GROYNES

Named after the large concrete blocks that jut out into the Otukaikino Creek, The Groynes is a recreational area bordering Clearwater, with the creek as its central feature. Cut off from the Waimakariri River during work in the 1930s, the creek now forms several lakes and waterways through The Groynes.

Families can enjoy the pedal-powered boats, which can be used on the water or enjoy watching model boats, sailed by the local club. Trout fishing is allowed in some of the lakes, but anglers require a permit.

The large open picnic areas make an ideal spot for an outing with family and friends. A playground offers another chance for children to burn off some energy. For more serious walkers and runners, the five-kilometre return Waimakiriri Walkway provides the opportunity to enjoy some fresh air. Pack a picnic and spend an afternoon in the sunshine.

Shorter walks around the lakes are suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs and for young children to walk.

THE GROYNES DOG PARK

The Groynes Dog Park has two spring-fed streams for your dog to swim in, with plenty of trees and open spaces.

Four-legged friends are well catered for, with two agility parks, a swimming area, bush walks, and an exercise area, all of which can be used without a lead.
